About

An adventure with my late husband's job in shipping took me from Tokyo to Mombasa. It is here that I found my passion for uncovering the history of the Swahili Coast

Mombasa is a beautiful town with a rich history of people and cultures. On arrival in the humid port city in 1981 I found myself drawn to the Old Town and Fort Jesus.  I spent hours walking around the Fort, exploring the narrow streets of the Old Town and visiting the ruined settlements along the coast.

I met many fascinating and warm hearted people who welcomed me to their homes. And realised very quickly that although there was a thirst to understand more about their history - little was known. This was the challenge I needed. To uncover the forgotten stories and secrets of the past.

Any Project ideas?

I welcome any requests from worthy projects needing support.  A word of warning – I don’t expect to raise large funds with this initiative.  My wish is to grow a grass roots enthusiasm for the study of history at the Coast assisted with a little seed money.
